Find the model number first

Cooktops hide their rating plate. Frigidaire says a cooktop's model number is typically on the underside of the cooktop base, visible when it is lifted (Frigidaire); Whirlpool lists inside the burner box or underneath on the bottom (Whirlpool). Gas cooktops

GE's guidance applies to cooktops as well as ranges: most clicking-without-lighting is a wet or dirty burner, a misplaced electrode or a cap that does not match its head (GE Appliances). Whirlpool adds that some cooktops have a control lockout that stops ignition (Whirlpool).

Glass and induction

Angi's 2026 figures: glass top replacement $250 to $600, induction repairs $200 to $500 or more, burner replacement $120 to $250, knob or switch $75 to $150 (Angi). Stop using a cracked glass top; liquid can reach the elements and wiring underneath.

LP and gas safety
